An Open Letter to Sushi House

This really isn’t entirely your fault, it just seems like I’m always in the mood for you on Mondays.  And you’re closed on Monday.  I realize that everybody needs a day off, so I’m not complaining, Sushi House (my very favorite sushi restaurant.)  I’m just saying.  Mondays kind of suck without you.  There is nothing sadder than sitting around thinking about what I’m hungry for, realizing I haven’t had sushi in a while (gasp of delight!), poring over the menu planning a meal, finally settling on pretty much the same thing I always get (edamame, miso, some spicy roll) and calling you up to hear…a voice on the answering machine rattling off the hours.  At first I’m on autopilot and try to greet the machine and ask for a delivery.  It’s usually at this point as the machine talks over me that I come to terms with what’s happening and make a mental note to please for god’s sake next time remember that Sushi House is closed on Mondays.  So, okay, you know what?  I’m not saying I don’t have some perspective here.  Things are tough all over.  Sometimes you have to make serious personal sacrifices and eat Ichiban miso while you watch No Reservations. This is a burden but I’m not blaming you, Sushi House.  It isn’t your fault that I can’t remember what day you’re closed, and it isn’t your fault that you’re just better than every other game in town.  Wait, no, that is totally on you.  Sigh.  Come back tomorrow, okay?
